Best Friends Forever Announced as Opening Night Film

...

The 31st Greek Film Festival, co-organised by the Greek Community of Melbourne and the Greek Orthodox Community of NSW, will return from 13–25 October 2026 in Melbourne, bringing the best of Greek cinema to audiences across Australia.

The Festival will open on Tuesday 13 October with the Australian premiere of Best Friends Forever, a warm-hearted contemporary Greek comedy written and directed by Konstantinos Mousoulis.

Opening Night tickets go on sale at 9.00am (AEST) on Wednesday 12 August 2026. Opening Night has consistently sold out in previous years and high demand is expected again, with audiences encouraged to book as soon as tickets are released to avoid missing out.

Packed with humour, heart and unforgettable characters, Best Friends Forever follows a series of intertwined stories centred around a wedding that unravels before it even begins. A well-intentioned favour becomes a chaotic journey to Crete, where misunderstandings, family tensions and unexpected twists test friendships in ways no one could have imagined.

The film features an outstanding ensemble cast including Thanasis Tsaltampasis, Agorasti Arvaniti, Doretta Papadimitriou, Thanasis Alevras, Matina Nikolaou, Zisis Roumbos, Chrysa Michalopoulou, Giannis Apergis, Takis Papamattheou and Australian actor Louis Mandylor. A celebration of friendship, loyalty and the unpredictable consequences of trying to do the right thing, Best Friends Forever is the perfect way to launch this year’s Festival.

Opening Night will screen simultaneously across Melbourne at Palace Pentridge, Palace Como, Palace Balwyn, Palace Penny Lane, Palace Westgarth and The Astor Theatre, with Sydney screening at Norton Street.

Now in its 31st year, the Greek Film Festival continues its mission of celebrating the richness, creativity and diversity of Greek cinema while connecting Australian audiences with compelling stories from Greece and the Greek diaspora.

The complete Festival program, featuring acclaimed dramas, comedies, documentaries, audience favourites and special events, will be unveiled in the coming weeks.
